Did you know that beef tallow, in addition to being a healthy saturated fat, is also great for your skin?
From perimenopause to menopause, many women experience drier skin, fine lines and skin laxity. Why some women look 10 to 15 years younger than their age can be attributed to a variety of factors:
- Lifestyle
- Genes
- Sun damage
- Diet
- Skin care
- Stress
- Detoxification
It’s never too late to turn things around and look at the 6 factors I just mentioned and incorporate an all natural skin care regimen. I know the idea of putting beef fat on your face sounds crazy, but once you learn about the amazing nutrients and benefits for your skin, you just may change your mind.
The other good for you ingredients in this DIY face cream are carrot seed oil and essential oil of frankincense.
Beef tallow profile
Nutrient-Rich Composition: Grass-fed and grass-finished beef tallow is rich in various nutrients and vitamins that are beneficial for skin health. It contains a balanced ratio of saturated, monounsaturated, and polyunsaturated fats, along with fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K. These nutrients play crucial roles in maintaining skin integrity, moisture, and overall health.
Closest to Our Own Biology: One of the remarkable aspects of beef tallow is its similarity to the natural oils produced by our skin. The composition of beef tallow closely resembles the sebum produced by our skin’s sebaceous glands. This makes it highly compatible with our skin’s biology, allowing for better absorption and utilization of its beneficial properties.
Moisturizing and Nourishing: Beef tallow acts as an excellent moisturizer for mature skin, especially during menopause when hormonal changes can lead to dryness and loss of elasticity. Its rich fatty acid profile helps to replenish lost moisture, soothe irritation, and nourish the skin from within. This can result in improved hydration, suppleness, and a more youthful appearance.
Anti-Aging Properties: The vitamins present in grass-fed beef tallow, particularly vitamins A and E, possess potent antioxidant properties. These antioxidants help neutralize free radicals that contribute to premature aging, such as fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots. Regular use of beef tallow-based skincare products can aid in maintaining a more youthful complexion and reducing the visible signs of aging.
Skin Barrier Protection: The saturated fats in beef tallow form a protective barrier on the skin’s surface, helping to prevent moisture loss and shield against environmental aggressors. This barrier function is especially crucial for menopausal women whose skin may become thinner and more susceptible to damage over time. By enhancing the skin’s barrier function, beef tallow promotes resilience and enhances its ability to retain moisture.

Incorporating carrot seed oil into your skincare routine can help unveil a smoother, more youthful complexion over time.
- Antioxidant Defense: The high antioxidant content in carrot seed oil makes it a formidable ally against environmental stressors and free radical damage. These antioxidants help neutralize harmful molecules that contribute to premature aging, protecting the skin from oxidative stress and maintaining its youthful glow.
- Moisture Retention: Carrot seed oil possesses excellent moisturizing properties, making it ideal for addressing dry, dehydrated skin. Its emollient nature helps to lock in moisture, promoting optimal hydration and preventing moisture loss throughout the day. Regular use of carrot seed oil can leave the skin feeling soft, supple, and deeply nourished.
- Skin Soothing Benefits: For those with sensitive or irritated skin, carrot seed oil offers soothing relief. It contains anti-inflammatory compounds that help calm redness, inflammation, and irritation, making it particularly beneficial for individuals with conditions such as eczema or rosacea. Incorporating carrot seed oil into your skincare regimen can help promote a more balanced and comfortable complexion.
- Enhanced Skin Tone and Texture: Carrot seed oil is revered for its ability to improve skin tone and texture, imparting a radiant and even complexion. Its rejuvenating properties help to fade hyperpigmentation, scars, and blemishes over time, while its nourishing compounds promote a smoother and more refined skin texture.

Tallow & carrot seed face cream recipe
Equipment:
- Medium size sauce pan
- Large spoon for stirring
- Large mixing bowl
- Glass mason jar with lid for storage
- Hand held mixer
- Kitchen timer (I like to use the timer on my stove, since it beeps when it goes off)
Ingredients:
1 cup grass fed, grass finished beef tallow
¼ cup of 100% pure organic carrot seed oil
50 drops (or more to your liking) 100% pure essential oil of frankincense
Directions:
When you buy your tallow, it will be in a glass jar, if you purchase the one using my link. It’s from White Oak Pastures. Tallow should be refrigerated and it becomes hard like the consistency of a bar of soap until heated.
- Step 1:
In a medium sized sauce pan, measure out as best as you can 1 cup of tallow. Place the tallow in the sauce pan and heat it on low. Allow it to melt and until it becomes liquid.
- Step 2:
Next place the liquified tallow in a large mixing bowl. Add ¼ cup of carrot seed oil. Stir the mixture for about a minute until well combined.
- Step 3:
Place the tallow and carrot seed oil mixture in the freezer for about 15 -20 minutes until is starts to become more solid looking. Set a timer so you’ll hear it when it goes off. You do not want it to be frozen but just thickened enough like “frosting for a cake.”
- Step 4:
After 15 – 20 minutes, take the tallow and carrot seed oil mixture out of the freezer. Using your hand held mixer, beat the tallow and carrot seed oil mixture on high for several minutes; about 2-3 minutes until it looks nice and fluffy.
- Step 5:
Add 50 drops of 100% organic essential oil of frankincense. Combine the ingredients again with the addition of the frankincense for about 15 to 20 seconds with the hand held mixer.
- Step 6:
Store your face cream in a glass mason jar and keep it in the fridge.
